Associate Scientist, Analytical Development - 12 month contract

Primary Responsibility

As an analytical associate scientist you will be conducting analytical assays to support the company‚Äôs research and development activities. These assays will be a range of bioassays (such as ELISA, cytotoxicity assays, phenotypic and functional flow cytometric assays) aimed at characterising our lentivirus and transduced T cell products specific for various cancer antigens. Whilst initially requiring supervision by a more senior scientist, you will develop further scientific skills to enable working more independently on routine experiments. 

 

The post holder is also expected to be involved in one or more support activities to enable the smooth running of the group or laboratory and enable the company to function towards its goals as well as contributing to the preparation of all laboratory associated documentations (study plans, protocols and reports) to a high standard.

 

Hepatitis B Vaccination is required for this contract position

 

Key Responsibilities

  1. Conducting experiments and supporting colleagues, the group and Adaptimmune projects (70%)
  2. Participate in group and project meetings and discussions (20%)
  3. Routine lab maintenance (10%).

 

Qualifications & Experience

Minimum Required

  • A levels or equivalent (incl. BTEC, HNC, HND etc.) in life science subjects
  • Ability to learn and develop in order to work independently on routine experiments within a reasonable time frame.
  • Good grasp of mathematics

Desirable

  • Degree in Lifesciences.
  • Experience of laboratory procedures including pipetting skills (either through degree or work experience)
  • Cell culture experience and aseptic technique

 

Skills & Competencies

Required

  • High attention to details and meticulous record keeping to meet regulatory needs
  • Computer literate and ability to familiarise with different IT systems
  • Good numeracy and English language skills (both written and verbal)
  • Good communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Ability to follow protocols.
  • Knowledge and skills to use of standard laboratory equipment (such as pipettes, centrifuges).
  • Strong team player.
