Deputy General Counsel R&D/Clinical

Primary Responsibility

Adaptimmune is a fast growing biopharmaceutical company working in a ground breaking and complex environment. The legal role often requires innovative processes and transactions to facilitate the development of its immunotherapy products.

The Deputy General Counsel will have primary responsibility for the R&D, BD and Clinical business units and will partner closely with those teams. The Deputy General Counsel will also take on responsibility for GDPR compliance and Human Tissue Act compliance within the organisation.

 

Key Responsibilities

1. Partnering with the R&D, BD and Clinical business units in UK and US to facilitate continued development and progression of all projects including negotiation and finalisation of all applicable transactions and liaising with external counsel where required or necessary . Agreements will include collaboration agreements, R&D agreements, clinical site trial agreements, supply agreements, material transfer agreements, confidentiality agreements.

2.  Managing the UK based legal team including developing the UK team as appropriate

3.  Managing and being responsible for UK based compliance including GDPR and HTA compliance activities, including development of policies and training

4.  Monitor relevant legislation and advice business as necessary

 

Qualifications & Experience

Required :

  • Proven ability within in-house legal teams together with legal experience within R&D and clinical sectors

Desirable :

  • Science Background, preferably biotechnology or chemistry
  • Previous experience in the biopharmaceutical or life sciences industry, particularly in immunotherapy field
  • Previous senior in-house role including experience in growing legal teams
  • Multi-jurisdictional experience and knowledge, particularly in EU and US

Qualifications:

  • Excellent academic results (preferably England and Wales qualified, but equivalent qualifications will be considered)
  • Solid PQE  experience within relevent sector
  • Experience within IP sector and clinical trial sector

Decision Making Authority

Senior role with independence and responsibility for areas of practice. Reporting into GC Deputy General Counsel is expected to guide and steer Adaptimmune in relation to areas of responsibility and to be an active participant of the senior management team.
